The
entrance of Little Brother |
Little Brother came to perform at the Sonar Lounge in Baltimore a few months before their next major release Getback. Off the heals of the release of the free downloadable mixtape ...And Justus For All back in February, the duo continues to evolve musically. They performed many of the new songs from the mixtape as well as classics from The Minstrel Show, Chittlin Circuit and The Listening. Personally, this was my second LB show at the Sonic Lounge. I was impressed with the live show the first time around, but this show highlighted Phonte's gifts as a showman. He was part rapper, stand-up comedian and mock preacher. Not to be overlooked, Big Pooh shined when he was on the mic. Darien Brockington brought the soul. Frankly, they are the current embodiment of what I consider rap at its highest form. LBs music is very smart, humorous, clever and relatable. Plus, the beats are just banging. It's been awhile since I felt like I was this in tune to a group in terms of their sound both lyrically and musically. On the underground movement tip, I see Little Brother getting to the level in terms of fan support that Dilated Peoples has achieved in the last few years.
